Summer Programs

Youth and Adult Programs is excited to bring you new experiences for youth this summer that provide education enrichment, skill building, a sense of community, social and emotional learning, and recreational opportunities! Check out our free or low-cost, in-person options throughout Minneapolis. Customize a schedule to meet your needs including full day, weekly AM and PM classes for up to eight weeks beginning in June. Super Summer at Dowling, Justice Page, Northeast and Southwest 
Explore your interests and discover something new in these week-long Monday-Thursday classes, June 14-August 12th. We have programs for participants in PreK-9th grade. Classes include fine arts, STEM, science, outdoors, sports, imagination, aquatics and technology. CAHOOTS Correspondence Workbook Program

CAHOOTS is a self-paced correspondence program designed to help prevent summer learning loss in an enjoyable way. CAHOOTS sharpens academic skills, fosters independence and promotes self reflection. Participants receive a CAHOOTS workbook, a robust weekly review of math and language arts concepts for youth entering Kindergarten-6th grade. Over the course of eight weeks, students can reflect and send/receive feedback and encouragement from a reflection buddy through the mail! Beacons Franklin Summer Program
Join Community Education and YWCA Beacons at Franklin Middle School for an in-person summer of activities and leadership for students entering 1st-9th grade. Program is Monday-Friday June 21-August 6, free and includes breakfast and lunch. Activities will include: Music Production, Soccer, Basketball, Biking, Swimming Lessons, Boxing Fitness, DIY crafts and more. Transportation provided from park stop locations. Whittier Natural Leaders Summer Program

Freedom School-Cityview and Green Central 
Minneapolis Public Schools CDF Freedom Schools is a free, six-week summer program for students currently in grades K-8. Participation in Freedom Schools provides enriching group activities including field trips, culturally affirming materials, a well-trained and caring staff, and parent involvement, with an emphasis on literacy, math, leadership development and college and career readiness. Luxton Learners

East Side Neighborhood Services is a free outdoor program for youth entering grades K – 6. Students take part in games and sports, youth advocacy, art, imaginative play, community service, math, literacy, walking field trips and community gardening. Program meets Mondays – Thursdays 10:30 am – 3:30 pm from June 21 - July 29 and includes breakfast and lunch at Luxton Park, 112 Williams Ave. SE.For more information, contact Lissa Gordon LGordon@esns.org or Jean Emmons JEmmons@esns.org

School Spirit Sport Camps

Coming this August, Community Education in partnership with The Sanneh Foundation will be hosting week-long sports camps at Edison and South High School for children in grades K-5. Families can register for morning or afternoon camps that will take place on the varsity field and include sports such as Soccer, Track and Field, Volleyball, and Flag Football. Adaptive sports options are also available. The Edison Sports Camp will be held the week of August 2nd – 6th with South High School hosting camp the week of August 9th – 13th. All camps are free and transportation will be provided. Summer Arts Courses at The FAIR School for Arts

Love the Arts Scene?  Come be a part of it in downtown Minneapolis as it reawakens this summer!  Are you looking for a chance to express your identity, develop your skills, and meet new people?  Dance, draw, paint, sing, play, and create at The FAIR High School for Arts, MacPhail, Hennepin Theater Trust and the Cowles Center.  Paint a social justice mural for George Floyd square, design a skateboard, work backstage in a theater, produce digital music, learn the ukulele and more. Summer Scholars

Extended Learning also offers programs that provide an innovative, immersive summer experience that challenges your child to explore a world of possibilities both in and out of the classroom. It’s a place where learners forge their own path, dream up new ideas, and find meaning in everything they create. All while discovering endless ways to connect with friends and their interests. Your student is a scholar. And at MPS they can explore, create and connect all summer long.
